Jennifer Lopez: True love begins with fully accepting and loving myself
The world star, who will soon be performing in Budapest, sent a message to her Hungarian fans from home. A new album, a new film, a new tour, and above all a new perspective, in which love, self-identity and inner peace are at the center. Jennifer Lopez now shines not only on stage, but also from within.
How are you now, ahead of the tour and new projects?
Jennifer Lopez: I feel great, but in a very different way than I used to. The past year has been a deep inner journey, filled with pain, learning, and healing. Sometimes we have to stop and listen to our own heartbeat again… to remind ourselves of who we really are. For the first time, I truly feel like I’m living in my own rhythm. I’m excited, but it’s a quieter, deeper excitement. It’s not the rush that used to be, it’s more of a gratitude.

What can we expect from the Up All Night tour?
Jennifer Lopez: This tour is going to be very personal for me. It’s My Party was also a huge celebration… full of joy, dancing, life. I want to share that joy with you now, and I also want to connect with you more deeply. As I said, the past year has been full of heartbreaking decisions, difficult moments, all of which have shaped and transformed me. Now I feel like I’ve finally found myself again… and I definitely want to share that journey with you. That good energy will be with me on stage, in every song, every move, every moment.
How has your relationship with music changed over the years?
Jennifer Lopez: Music has always been a part of my life, my being. I write songs even when I'm not making an album because that's how I breathe and exist. Dance is my primary language, it's how I live, tell stories, and I'm truly myself. In the past, I mostly sang about romantic love in my songs. Today, I'm thinking more and more about how I can truly love... myself. This realization gives my music a whole new nuance: deeper, more honest, more real.

The theme of love also plays an important role in your upcoming film, the adaptation of Kiss of the Spider Woman. What does this project mean to you?
Jennifer Lopez: It means a lot to me. This story is about accepting each other for who we are, with our vulnerabilities, our strengths, our pasts. I am especially happy and proud that three Latina leads are in the film, it is a huge step in this industry. I am deeply moved to be a part of such an important and heartfelt work.
A lot of people are already talking about an Oscar opportunity. Does that concern you?
Jennifer Lopez: Honestly? It feels great to be recognized for your work, but I've never been motivated by awards. The most important thing has always been to get roles where I can really give myself and develop. Awards are great, but they don't define who I really am.
You've been talking a lot about self-knowledge lately. What was the most important lesson of this journey?
Jennifer Lopez: I realized that everything that is truly valuable in my life: my children, my work, my relationships... starts with love, and true love starts with myself. If I can't love and accept myself, how can I expect others to? Today, I am much more conscious of not losing myself, no matter what is happening around me.

How do you balance motherhood and career?
Jennifer Lopez: Well... I always balance! (laughs) When my kids were little, I took them everywhere with me. But then they asked me to go to school, to live a normal life. I realized I had to let them go a little. Sometimes I question whether I made the right decision, but I always say that their happiness is the most important thing. I'm still constantly trying to find a balance between work and family, and I know many people do the same.
Your Super Bowl performance sent a powerful message. Are you planning to do something similar now?
Jennifer Lopez: I always have something to say, but I like to convey it subtly, through art. Today I feel even more strongly that love, acceptance, belonging are the most important messages that we have to convey to the world. If you can plant a little hope or love in the heart of even one person during a song or a concert, then it's worth it.
When you think back to that girl who started out in the Bronx... what message do you have for her today?
Jennifer Lopez: Huh, that's a powerful question. I was thinking about that very thing recently on set. Who am I? The woman dancing on stage? The actress in front of the camera? Or the one who sits quietly when the spotlight goes down? I realized that I am all of them - but the most important thing is still the girl who dreamed in the Bronx that she would one day get here. Now I finally embrace that girl with pride. For everything she has accomplished. For everything she has survived. I am grateful to her and I am grateful for every moment of life.

What do you think is the key to your success?
Jennifer Lopez: I think it's that I've always been myself. I've never tried to be someone other than who I really am, with my flaws and my strengths.
I've always been a big dreamer, and I believe that dreams can come true if you set specific goals for yourself and work towards them every day. I didn't just dream, I always worked really hard to achieve what I wanted to achieve. I try to do this work with the greatest humility, love and diligence.
Of course, there were difficult moments when I doubted myself, but I always found my way back to that inner voice that said: “Just keep doing it, from the heart.”
Persistence, honesty, faith and working from a pure heart, I think, are the real keys.
What message do you have for the Hungarian fans?
Jennifer Lopez: First of all, I would like to say: thank you for being you. Thank you for the love, support, and energy that I receive from you every day. I can't wait to meet you, to sing, dance and party together. I give my heart at every concert and now you will receive it sincerely, purely and with great love.
Jennifer Lopez will perform in Hungary on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the MVM Dome in Budapest, as part of her exclusive Up All Night - Live in 2025 tour.
